[ FOSTER OF THE WEEK ] - Sandy

Think back to the morning of Hurricane Sandy....think back to the early morning hours as you hit snooze again and huddled deeper under your warm, cozy blankets and curled up tighter against your dog, stealing their body heat and almost drifting back to deep sleep as you fall in unison with your dogs easy, peaceful breathing...and then imagine a poor frail dog soaked to the bone, out there alone in the cold rain, and vicious wind, hobbling around the countryside. She carries her hurt left paw high and any weight on it makes her yelp in pain. Her sparse crappy coat is marked with scars and pressure soars, markers of years of neglect. Her empty tummy hangs down and it is obvious in one glance that this sweet, gentle girl has been a Mama many, many times. Her ears are swollen and chewed and her nails long and curled sideways yet she continues on.....this poor sweet soul alone and unwanted the morning the hurricane hit us..... and so we named her Sandy.

This beautiful girl now sits comfy and warm under veterinarian care, her foot gaining strength and her many many ailments being tended to. In true Lab fashion her tail thump, thump , thumps with each meal brought to her ...and eyes once clouded and scared are now happy and full of hope. We have made a huge difference in this girl's life- we have given her one! We talk to her, and fuss over her and promise her a family of her own who will love and cherish her and will make sure she is never alone again. In the meantime she has all of us for her family and that's a lot of love!
We can't help Sandy and dogs like her without your help ....please donate.....every dollar makes a difference.

[ FOSTER OF THE WEEK ] - Maggie

This week we are introducing

MAGGIE

Maggie&Flash the kitten
Maggie smilingThis lovable black lab cross is happily living in her new foster home, with her foster parents Melissa & Jeff. She enjoys socializing with 3 other dogs, big and small, and has a lovable relationship with the kitten of the house, as seen in this photo on the right, moments before kisses were exchanged. Maggie is around 5 to 6 years old, is healthy and has lived with other dogs for most of her life. She has learned to deal with her anxiety in a very positive manner and succeeded to manifest it in the form of looking for love and affection. Maggie has developed this uncanny ability to leap into "cuddling" position in mid air and land perfectly in her favorite spooning position: little spoon. She often "smiles" and asks for attention , and as soon as she knows she has it , she likes to relax beside her foster parents whether it be on the couch, floor or bed, she is content. Maggie follows her parents around as her curiosity peaks. She is a very good listener and is also easily trainable. Maggie enjoys small treats here and there and is famous for her howl-like "hello!".
